Off Center Strike - A coin struck on a blank that was not properly centered over the anvil, or lower, die. Off-center coins are one of the most common and best known types of errors. This happens when a blank, as it is fed into the press, lands in the collar improperly. When this occurs only part of the blank is between the upper and lower dies. When the dies strike the blank, only that part will be struck with a design.
1921-D $1 Morgan Dollar--Struck 13% Off Center--AU58 PCGS. A boldly impressed Morgan dollar, struck 13% off center between 12 and 1 o'clock. A trace of highpoint friction appears over the devices, but this remains an important and unusual mint error; few silver dollar errors were ever released. Attractive gold-gray and lilac patina covers each side.(: P3, N1) (#7298) Sold for $8050. Large Full Coin Copyrighted© Images on loan to VAMworld courtesy ©[Heritage Auctions

1883-O $1 Morgan silver dollar--Struck 10% Off-Center--MS64 PCGS. This is a choice mint state example that is struck 10% off-center at 5:30. Both sides are fully brilliant without any evidence of toning. From the specialist's viewpoint, this is extremely rare. The typical off-center Morgan dollar is apt to be five-percent or less off-center. Any that meet or exceed 10% off-center, and retain an original date, are extraordinarily important.
