Filled Die
Filled Die - A filled die occurs when grease or a similar substance becomes trapped within one or more of the devices on a die. The result after striking shows a coin with a partially or fully missing device.
The most famous filled die in the Morgan series is the 1921-D VAM-1A2 "Tru-t" variety, a Top 100 coin. There are other similar filled dies among the known 1921-D varieties.
Leroy Van Allen has recently declared that he will no longer give filled die varieties their own VAM designation because they are not true die varieties but caused by a temporary die state.
