1903 is typically an attractive coin, sharply struck with nice surfaces and satiny, but not frosty luster. Prooflike coins are quite rare, lacking contrast. Many have slight doubling on Liberty's profile or reverse lettering, but none are dramatic. The most interesting variety is likely the VAM 1A, which has very strong die polishing throughout both obverse and reverse fields, almost making the coin appear harshly cleaned at first glance. All 1903 reverses use the newer C4 hub.
