1902-S is one of the semi-key later date Morgan dollars. These coins tend to have satiny luster, but, like 1901-S, an uncharacteristically poor strike for dollars produced in San Francisco. To make matters worse, these coins tend to be plagued with planchet striations, or "roller marks," that were not struck out. Finding a well-struck coin with superior eye-appeal is a challenge. Prooflike coins are quite rare, comprising less than 1% of the combined population at PCGS and NGC, and tend not to have much contrast. There are some C4/C3 "2 olive" reverses and some minor doubled profiles, but nothing that has garnered the attention of variety collectors.
