Discovered by Ron Downing, March 1966.
This coin is a Hot 50 and Elite Clashed Morgan Dollar VAM

Obverse III22– Clashed die with partial incuse n of In from reverse next to Liberty's neck and faint partial incuse st of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. Date set further right than normal. Dash under second 8 in date.
Reverse C3a– Clashed die with partial raised E from obverse LIBERTY showing below eagle’s tail feather on left side. Vertical bar and middle serif of E shows. Also shows raised designer’s initial M from obverse above d in God.

Comments:

  1. Key attribution identifiers for the 1884-P VAM-2A are the dash line under the second 8 in the date and the date located further right from the normal denticle/date position.
  2. Although not shown here, other clashed details such as the "bat-wing" clashes between the wreath and the eagles left wing, the outline of Liberty's profile between the eagle's right wing and right side wreath, the neck clash emanating from the top of the eagles' wing near the G in God of the motto, and clashed cotton bolls showing between the eagle's left wing and arrows, may also be helpful initially spotting this clashed coin.
