Emission Sequence

  1. Key attribution identifiers for the 1884-P VAM-2A are the dash line under the second 8 in the date and the date located further right from the normal denticle/date position.
  2. Although not shown here, other clashed details such as the "bat-wing" clashes between the wreath and the eagles left wing, the outline of Liberty's profile between the eagle's right wing and right side wreath, the neck clash emanating from the top of the eagles' wing near the G in God of the motto, and clashed cotton bolls showing between the eagle's left wing and arrows, may also be helpful initially spotting this clashed coin.

You should also refer to the die crack lines in the date and on other areas of the coin. Referencing them may help you
spot a VAM-2A especially in later die states.
