Obverse III2 1 - Die marker - Two diverging polishing lines in lower right hair opening.
Reverse C3a– Letters of In God We Trust and UNITED STATES plus left wreath have raised and depressed areas around them due to heavy buffing of die. Some die states show light die clash marks. Earliest die stages of this reverse are not clashed.

- 1883-O VAM-1C1, 1883-O VAM-1C2, & 1883-O VAM-1C3 all share the same reverse, but 1883-O VAM-1C1 has a different obverse than 1883-O VAM-1C2 & 1883-O VAM-1C3. 1883-O VAM-1C1 reverse comes both non-clashed & single clashed. While the 1883-O VAM-1C2 is known to have the clashed M on the reverse, the M may also be seen lightly clashed on some 1883-O VAM-1C1 single clash examples. Non-clashed examples are considered EDS & can be found with reflective proof-like fields.
- 1883-O VAM-1C1 obverse was also used on the 1883-O VAM-16.
