Variety and error collectors will often speak of defective planchets, but defective planchet does not create a new VAM. A planchet defect occurs only on one coin. A VAM is a listing of a die variety, which thus typically occurs on more than one coin.
Planchet Flaw describes a void or lamination (separation) in a coin’s planchet as made. OBV PLANCHET FLAW and REV PLANCHET FLAW provide a guide to the problem’s location.
